Fresh from waste.
We rescue used coffee grounds and turn them into things worth keeping: an odour-absorbing scent pouch and a rustic Christmas tree decoration. Every part is chosen to be compostable.
From the bottom of a coffee cup to something useful
Every cup of coffee leaves behind a scoop of used grounds, and most of them go straight in the bin. We think that wastes a brilliant material.
-
Collect
We gather used coffee grounds that would otherwise be thrown away.
-
Dry
The grounds are dried out so they're ready to work with.
-
Mix & mould
We mix them with PCL, a biodegradable material, and mould every piece ourselves. Scent pods also get activated charcoal and bicarb.
-
Use, then compost
Use it, enjoy it, and when it's done, it's designed to be composted rather than sent to landfill.
Two ways to give coffee a second life
Scent Pouch
A small printed cotton pouch with a coffee-grounds, charcoal and bicarb pod inside. Pop it in trainers, gym bags, drawers or the car to soak up smells instead of covering them. 10 out of 10 blind testers smelt the difference.
Christmas Tree Decoration
A rustic, speckled tree made from coffee grounds and PCL, finished with plant-based gold glitter. Hang it on the tree, tie it to a present, then compost it.
Small products, made with care
Made from waste
The heart of every product is something that was heading for the bin.
Compostable by design
Coffee grounds, PCL, cotton and plant-based glitter: every material is chosen so it can break down.
Made by students
We're a Young Enterprise company run by students at Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood.
Common questions
Does the Scent Pouch smell of coffee?
Only faintly, and only up close. We add no scent, and the pouch is designed to absorb odours rather than cover them with a new smell.
Does it actually work?
In our blind test, all 10 testers smelt less odour after our final formula had been left in for 5 hours. Activated charcoal traps smells and bicarbonate of soda neutralises sweaty, sour ones. See our test results.
How long does a pouch last?
It works until the charcoal fills up and the bicarb is used up. Leaving it in sunlight partly refreshes it. When smells come back, it's time for a new pod.
Where can I buy your products?
In person at our trade fairs. We don't sell online.
How much do they cost?
The Scent Pouch is £5 and the Christmas Tree Decoration is £4.
What are they made from?
Used coffee grounds mixed with PCL, a biodegradable material. The Scent Pouch pod also has activated charcoal and bicarbonate of soda pressed into its surface. The pouch is printed cotton, and the tree has plant-based gold glitter.
What do I do with it when I've finished with it?
Every part is chosen to be compostable, so it's designed to be composted rather than thrown in the bin.
